Vacation with No Camera????WOW

Posted on August 26, 2010

OK- so for the first time EVER- I left my camera at home…..went on a small 3 day vacation and didn’t snap one single picture…Is that even possible? Of Course I seen things that made me wish that I had my camera on me….Like my cute little Kaleb building sand volcanoes….and playing with the dead crawdad…..he thought it was alive and that’s all that matters…I would have loved to take some action shots of the water skiing and Jet Skiing, and all those fun activities that I used to do. I would have loved to take a picture of the sunset through the smoke filled sky. I would have loved to take a family photo to remember our vacation. I would have loved to take a picture of Kiana in her cute little Bikini with her tan little body. I would have LOVED to get a picture of Casey’s face when he realized how cold that water was. I would have loved to get a picture of the Turkey Vultures that are protected animals and that were swooping around our campground. I would have LOVED to get a star trail picture. And I would have Loved to get a picture of the kids eating their smores…BUT instead of Lugging around my big ol pro camera and gear…I actually enjoyed those moments with the kids…playing in the lake and making smores and watching the sunset and snuggling in bed with my kiddos. I’m super sad that summer is coming to an end. The nights are getting longer and cooler, and the mornings have a chill……even though I didn’t take 1 single picture, I have tons of memories and I’m sure my kids had a better time with mom, then with the photographer that normally goes on our family vacations with us…..I LOVE being a photographer, but I have to remember I’m a mom too…..thanks to my awesome customers who let  me reschedule their Senior Portrait sessions so I could go on vacation and spend a few days with my family. If you happened to call me why I was away, please call again as my voicemail was full, and I wasn’t getting my messages :(

CA REEEEEEE PEEEEEEEE…….. (Creepy)

Posted on February 17, 2010

SO………… Last week I went to Portland for a little Photography Training! Lucky me I got to stay at McMenamins Edgefield………..

So,  I strongly advise that you do not google “haunted edgefield” at 2am while to go to sleep with the “creepy-ness” that this place posessesses.

I didn’t experience and abnormal activity while I was there……… I mean I did wake up several times because the doors on the armoire in my room kept rattling to the point of freaking me out, but I never felt anything….oh, except for the time when I was laying in bed, and it TOTALLY felt like someone jumped on my bed and did a front summersault into the air, but other then that…..it was fine :) So here are a few pics that I snapped…….These are pics of my room, and the decor….Meet Nurse Jeannie she was 104 years old when she died at edgefield………she lived in my room while she worked there…..she was there when I woke up in the middle of the night starting at me…….ewwwwwwwwww
The little faces they have painted on all the pipes EVERYWHERE….in the bathroom, above the beds, in the halls…..ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Lets just say you could stay at edgefiled and ALWAYS have someone looking out for you………
NOW I could have let myself get TOTALLY creeped out, but I just kept it lighthearted and fun….It really was an amazing place, and I’m sure that some CRAZY stuff has happened at that place…….The food was great, the Margaritas were great, and meeting my fellow photographers, and friends is always a good time…..OMG- don’t forget about the soaking pool….more on that tomorrow!!!! Enjoy the creepy pics!!!

Wrestling=OUCH

Posted on January 22, 2010

I’m So excited that I’ve been asked to do so many sports events Lately! What an Exciting change for me!!! Well, Wednesday Night I went to Obsidian Junior High here in Redmond to take photos of the Wrestling Meet that was happening. NOW, It has been several years since I have been to any School related sports event, I’m not really the sports kind of person……you know, I was the kid that made baskets in the other teams hoop…….HAHAHA I’m not ashamed to admit it….I suck at sports…ANYWAYS, I showed up with all my gear, ready to take some pics, when something came over me……OMG-my  “MOM” goggles some how slipped onto my eyes, I wanted to save the kids who were being smashed and pulled and pinched…..honestly I kinda got into it, and I wanted to start coaching these kids, but I didn’t, I kept my cool……….

I learned a lot that night about relationships, and that Kids ARE awesome!!!! I LOVE the way the kids looked at their coaches for advise and inspiration in the middle of being smashed…..those big eyes looking up for someone to tell them what to do…..I LOVED that no matter what, win or lose the coaches were all proud of their kids, never a negative thing said to any of them “you could have done better” or “wow, that was horrible” NEVER even crossed the coaches minds or lips. The Parents were strong supporters of their children, sometimes standing right behind the coaches, cheering on their kids! As a Parent, I dont know what it must feel like when your kid wins or loses, but I know that either way the parents and coaches that night did a wonderful job of giving these kids some GREAT self esteem boosters!!!! Kudos to them!!!

Here are some of my favorite shots from the Meet……..Enjoy………

P.S. If you are looking to purchase wrestling pics, they will be up on my site www.jenniferlewisphotography.com  later today :) If you would like to use these pictures on my BLOG for your personal blog, Facebook or Myspace please shoot me an email jenniferlewisphotography@gmail.com , and then add me as a friend and tag me in the photo!!!!! thanks!!

The Studio!!!!!!

Anyone who has worked with me probably knows that I have a little bit of a crazy life, but I’ve come to the conclusion that this is me, this is how I must like my life, because given the chance to rest, I don’t really know what to do with it…..It’s almost as if I lay awake wondering if I forgot something, or trying to figure out how to plan all the things I’ve crammed into tomorrow…..It’s just me…hahahaha

My mom owns two Coffee huts in Redmond. Full Throttle Java 1 & 2 as we call them, we also have a concession trailer that we take around to many events in the summer. Mom and I opened up Hut 1, FIVE years ago, we have grown close to many of our customers and have a tight bond with many of them. Those customers truly are in my heart, if they don’t show up for a few days, I start to worry about them. I love the two shops and love working down there! I work down there quite a bit. Then Of Course I have a Husband and two Small Kiddos, they are 6 and 4, so I’m busy just trying to keep up with them and be a great mom, that’s a lot of work by it’s self. Then I squeeze my photography in there because that is my passion. Two years ago I got totally slammed with photography at Christmas time, I broke down, said I couldn’t do it anymore, and turned away business…..I cried when I told people “sorry I’m not taking pictures any more” I cried at night, I cried in the day……then I realized THIS is what keeps me going…..this is what I love……I love brides, I love moms, I love grandmas, I love kids with big eyes, and chubby thighs, I love dads that hold their babies with love like they’ve never known before, I love new love of young couple, and I like wrinkles on old people, and I like tears in a brides eyes when her man is saying his vows….I seriously love people……I guess maybe I just realized that……

THIS IS MY STUDIO!!! OK- it’s still in the very beginning stages of becoming “ME” however we have been down there working on it and it’s SLOWLY coming around….It’s small, (OK it’s tiny) but it’s ALL MINE- LOVE THAT-

My husband has been making me some cool stuff!!! He’s So cool! I complained because It was to hard to change backgrounds, so he made me a track on the ceiling, SO COOL, then I complained that my HUGE soft box (light) was hard to position up and down and move around, so he made me a SWEET stand for it….then I told him I wanted to buy this stand for my camera, but it was $1000 OUCH- so he made me one…..I LOVE that he is helping me! I love that he can build cool stuff that I cant! Thanks Casey!!! It’s super nice to have a husband that supports your dream!

Here are the pictures of us putting up the track and some other little things……This studio is small and a starting place and perfect for kids and babies and bellies and boudoir, it’s also so nice to have a place to meet with people and show them all my awesome products!!!!

Sittin on the river bank……

Posted on December 4, 2009

OK, so I don’t really do a lot of landscape type stuff…….I would like to, but I just don’t think that my pictures of mountains and sky’s and “the earth in general” ever turn out as great as they should….I just cant seem to capture the scene in my camera like it truly was….I know people who do this….Adrian Klein I think he is freaking AWESOME if you look at his post from June 19th from the June Summer Convention, there were 20 photographers that got up in the middle of the night and went to sparks lake, you can check out how TOTALLY AWESOME his picture is, well he tried to teach me, but I think one of two things happened that day…..I have a little A.D.D in my blood and I just find it very hard to sit still and wait for things to be perfect, and/or, I’m so used to the constant craziness of my life with busing kids around, waking up constantly throughout the night with the children, going to work on such little sleep, never and I mean NEVER having complete silence for any given minute in my life that I found it almost impossible and completely uncomfortable to be out there at the lake with no one around for miles, and the only sounds we heard were the birds, and the water splashing against the shore….it was almost as if I couldn’t handle something that is necessary……anyways, Adrian and I compared SOOC (straight out of Camera) shots, and his BLEW mine away….miles and miles away…..I was in total awe of his ability with nature! ANYWAYS after Deanne and her family left the photo shoot on Sunday, I had to stop at the river and check it out. I walked down to the shore where I was immediately greeted by some starving swans and ducks. The air was freezing, and the grass was dead……but it was so pretty! So here is my attempt at some pictures of the Deschutes in Winter….Enjoy!

This is my Favorite picture from the river bank, I was quite the swan wisperer that day, he was showing off for me :)

The reason I like the next picture is because it reminded me of that story “The Ugly Duckling” almost as if he’s looking at his reflection……

Family Portrait session! Deanne

Posted on December 4, 2009

Do you know what I love about being 30? I feel like I’m finally allowed to be myself! I dont put up with all the drama that seems to be stirred up when you are 20, know what I mean? I feel like “this is who I am” I have to say, I LOVE IT! I love my JOB, I LOVE my Friends and Family, I love giving pictures to people that LOVE my work! I do secretly think to myself quite often how important a job I have….I know you might be laughing saying “she’s just a photographer” but think of all the joy that pictures have brought to you at one time or another…think of the times when you look back at your babies pictures and get a little tear in your eye as to how tiny they were…..think about your wedding pictures, good or bad they still pack such a punch of emotion, think about  pictures of grandmas or grandpas that are no longer with us, what a great thing to have, a photo to remember that exact moment or, that exact day…..I used to think it was so cheesy that my grandma would always send me pictures that she found in a box somewhere, pictures of me when I was a baby, or my dad when he was 5, but now I love those pictures and I’m glad that I have them! I think about how someday I’ll be 85 like my grandma and get to take out all the pictures that I have and be able to show them to my great great grandkids, I’ll be able to show them what a hottie I was the day I got married and how fat I got when I was pregnant with their mom……I am important, and photography is SO important!!!!  I love LOVE that I can share it with everyone I meet!!!!!

This Is Deanne! She is a UBER Fabolous “hair artist” (thats what I call her) here in Redmond! She works at Hip Chicks (which is SO freaking awesome on the inside, I want to live there) If you need any hair, nail, waxing, pedicures, massages for the you or for a special person in your life, you should TOTALLY look them up!!!

It's in the air early this year :)

Posted on November 21, 2009

OK- so I have to be honest and in the years since I’ve had my children (7 years now) I have been Less the thrilled about Christmas. I don’t know exactly why, but I can tell you that the preparing for Christmas has just been no fun for me….I always want to put up lights, but it always ends up costing more money then it should….you know? One year we bought HEAPS of the cool new rope lights……well those things totally sucked….they just were not bright and cheery like I have pictured in my head….(I want my house to look like Eagle Crest, FULL OF LIGHTS) I’m also a self confessed perfectionist when it comes to Christmas Lights…they are NEVER good enough or done right…I really don’t understand this about myself either because I’m so far from a “has to be perfect” person…but I want my Christmas Lights all pointing the exact same way, and I want them to every corner perfectly, and I don’t want to see cords running all over the place?????????I perplex myself with the Christmas Light saga…..ANYWAYS, the other bummer around my house is my children (hahaha) No seriously their Asthma causes all sorts of issues with Christmas Trees…..I refuse REFUSE to go to a lot on the corner and Pay $65 for a tiny tree when I am lucky enough to live in a place that surrounds me with WONDERFUL trees, for only $4, that’s right 4 BUCKS!!!! So the cold air of Christmas tree cutting always poses a slight threat and pain in the butt for the children…but we do it…..and then having the tree in the house….that’s a whole other issue with their allergies….I’m telling you Christmas in the Lewis house hold is quite an interesting experience…ANWAYS my whole point from this post is that I want to go get a tree today….HAHAHAHAHA I want to meticulously put up my Christmas lights on the outside of my house, I want to string popcorn and hang it on the tree…I WANT TO BAKE LOTS OF FUDGE- and I can’t wait a whole month to get my BFF Mindy’s famous Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter balls that I can only eat at midnight in the garage after the kids have been asleep for hours, and take a hot shower to rid any specks of peanut butter from my body, due to the kids’ Life Threatening Allergies to Peanuts…BUT I CANT WAIT!! I Seriously want to wrap empty boxes in Pretty paper just so I have them around……What has gotten into me this year?????????????? I think it’s time to watch “A Christmas Story”, ” It’s a Wonderful Life”, and  “A very merry Brady Christmas”……OK that last one was kind of a joke, but I bet I’d watch it if it were on….hahahaha

ANY-HOO Victoria is a Local woman, which is AWESOME, I met her through a client a few months ago. She is AWESOME! All the clothes that the girls are wearing was hand designed by Victoria. I highly recommed that if you want something cute for your little girl to wear for pictures or party’s or any special occasion you check out her ETSYsite, She also makes great Bows, and Hats and Headbands, amoung lots of other cute things!!!! Here are a Few from our shoot!!!

Color Virsion, but that pink makes it a VERY pink image :)

I really like Selective color, I know some photographers dont care for it, but I used to LOVE handtinting my film....
